Much excitement here at Limelight Musicals as we prepare to go into the studio to record pristine new versions of three Limelight shows.
The major project includes ‘original cast recordings’ of children’s musicals Dazzle and Poptastic, and the grown-up show Frank & Rosy.
Heading the project are Mike Millsted (below right), executive producer, and Mark Rogers (below left), record producer and chief sound engineer, who will work alongside the shows’ composer and writer Andrew Bailey at the London studio.
As head of theatre group Double Take Productions, Mike has previously produced and directed two Limelight shows and was responsible for the highly successful Edinburgh production of Frank & Rosy.
Mark is a top UK studio producer, having been senior engineer at London’s world-famous Abbey Road Studios. As a musician, he has also contributed to several previous Limelight productions.
The recordings will feature stunning new arrangements for the shows by Brian Farley.
Andrew Bailey said: “It’s a hugely exciting project. Across the three shows there are around 45 songs plus incidental music. We will be using top London musicians for the recordings, many of whom are seasoned West End players from shows such as Les Miserables and Evita.”
He added: “The result will be outstanding quality recordings, giving producers and performers definitive renditions of the songs that we hope will inspire.
"It will also provide a superb new set of high quality backing tracks for use in future productions.”
Recording will begin in October, with CDs available early in the New Year.
